Over 10 years of warm hospitality
Over 10 years of warm hospitality
Because most hospitals in Nepal are centered in Kathmandu, most patients from all over Nepal have to travel to Kathmandu for treatment. Many of them are even compelled to sleep on hospital floors because they have no money or shelter in the city. Parts of the profits from our trips helps a local NGO - called BAS - which provides free food and shelter to patients from rural Nepal.

Rita founded BAS is 2001 to help sick and poor patients from rural Nepal coming to hospitals in Kathmandu for treatment. She provided free food and accommodation (beds) in a small flat she rented. As the demand for beds was rising, the flat could not accommodate enough people. As such, many people got together and helped BAS in building its own shelter home through raising funds, selling spices, selling bags made by women at BAS etc. One of the big and sustainable ideas pioneered by a Swedish rider (Bjorn Carlsson) was to run MC-Trips. Over the years it has been greatly successful and our family has grown exponentially.
Bjorn Carlsson, the brains behind our company, found out about BAS and came to Nepal. Here he met Ramesh Kharel and Rita Kharel - the power couple and the heart of the company. Together, they started sharing stories and travel diaries. One thing led to another and voila - they thought of trying to organize some MC-Trips in Nepal. Ramesh would look after the organization and management and Bjorn would try to find riders!
The Round Nepal Trip (popular as the Green Mountains Trip) was the first trip that was ever planned. Bjorn and family Kharel sat down with a map, looked at roads, discussed routes and came up with a beautiful 13 days plan. Soon, they piloted it with some interested riders and it turned out to become a huge hit. Bjorn had oriented everyone properly, Ramesh had done excellent work organizing the trip here and Rita’s hospitality made the trip so much fun.
Rita's ‘fruit and coffee basket’ brought the group closer together with so much joy and fun - and the riders loved it!
After several successful trips, in 2017, we launched a new route, Upper Mustang Trip (popular as the Red Mountains Trip) - a bit more adventurous but also a lot of fun. This time the family’s son and daughter joined hands to help them out. Rekha, their daughter, looked after the management and Raj, the son, joined Rita in the follow-up jeep to help her out. Everyone loved how the whole ‘family-Kharel’ was invested in giving a good time to the riders.
Today we offer three ideal trips: The Green, The Red and The Curvy Mountains trip. Curvy Mountains is a trip to the East of Nepal and is a new addition. This trip has been carefully worked out on a map and piloted by Ramesh and Raj. We drive parallel to the great Himalayan range on snake-like curvy mountain roads and stay in some great-view mountain resorts. It is great fun!
The local Kharel family runs the entire project. They will be with you from pick up at the airport, accompany you throughout the trip and drop you back. So you will not join a big company run project - but you will join a real family and become its members. We have riders coming to Nepal 4 times - just to ride with our family.
The roots of Ride Nepal is not business - but rather help. The whole business was set up so that it’s profits can serve the sick people of Nepal. Learn more about the actual project here.
Rita carries a coffee basket with her and offers you free coffee all the way. If you prefer sugar - she’ll have sugar with her too. The moral is - we take care of each and every one of you like you were a part of the family and make sure that all of you leave with a smile and sweet remembrance.
